Storm veteran announces medical retirement from the NRL
By SEN
Melbourne Storm prop Tui Kamikamica has confirmed that he will no longer play in the NRL after announcing that he has medically retired from the competition.
The veteran forward has been an important cog of the club across the last decade, having played 142 games for the club. This saw him win two premierships in 2017 and 2020 and feature in the club's Grand Final sides in 2024 and 2025.
The announcement comes after the 32-year-old suffered a stroke, which saw the Fijian representative require brain surgery to remove a blood clot.
Speaking in a statement, Kamikamica was proud of what he has achieved in his career and will cherish the memories made with the Storm and with Fiji.
“I’m incredibly proud of everything I’ve been able to achieve in the game, representing Storm and captaining my country," he said.
“Melbourne Storm has been a huge part of my life for the past 10 years. I’m so grateful to the Club, my teammates, coaches, staff and everyone who has supported me and my family throughout my rugby league career.
“To play for Storm and captain Fiji are memories I’ll cherish forever. I want to thank everyone at Storm for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play at the highest level. Melbourne will always be a special place for me and my family and I’m looking forward to my next chapter in life.”
The Storm will next play on Thursday night against the Penrith Panthers at AAMI Park.
