Jayne Ivil

Te Rapa

Race 1 Maiden 3YO 1200m

4 – 1 – 8 – 11

Coniston has looked very smart in several trials building into his debut. Three trial wins over the winter months means he hasn’t been missed by the market, but he has run time and shown a sharp turn of foot. The Wooton Bassett Colt has drawn wide and will likely position in the second half of the field but there is an expectation that he will be hitting the line strongly. Shambo Jack looks the pick of the horses lining up with race day experience. He was last sighted at the races in April where he was placed at Ellerslie, a recent trial win suggests he is forward for his return and the stable has hit form at the right time heading into spring racing.

Race 8 Rating 65 1500m

13 – 6 – 1 – 2

Noble Cabello has been very consistent this preparation, finishing in the top three in every outing except one, where she encountered a good track at Ruakaka. Providing the track stays in the soft to heavy range she looks good value here. She produced the fastest closing sections last start when finishing third at Rotorua over 1400m beaten ¾ length on the line. Halo’s Fire comes into this third up with a rise in distance that suits. He has had excuses in both his starts, over racing fresh up then travelling wide last start. He should improve here.

Hastings

Race 2 Maiden 1600m

6 – 7 – 1 – 2

Bonus Bonds looks well placed in this race. She has finished runner-up in her past two starts, she had excuses two back when covering ground in transit and last start, with the blinkers applied, she raced a little too keenly outside the leader. The blinkers come off and are replaced by side winkers which should help her settle. This looks her best chance to win a race this campaign. New York is a four-year-old mare on debut who has shown enough gate speed at the trials to utilise her inside draw. The mile looks a suitable kick off point for a mare who should stretch out over further.

Mark Claydon

R8, No.13 Noble Cabello

Hastings R5, No.6 Zenzero Girl
