Jayden Short

“We discussed him more than a week ago. We did link him to Collingwood.

“Now the Pies do have an interest in Short, and that's something that's been driven by the coach of Collingwood, Craig McRae, as much as anyone at the Pies.

“But what became clear yesterday was that Jayden Short is wanting a fresh start, as opposed to the Tigers turning their list over.

“Jayden Short's grown increasingly unhappy with his role at Richmond, the way he's used at Richmond, how often he's used, and just the simple parameters around how he's allowed to play the game at the Tigers under this coaching structure.

“I think he might even be a little concerned that if he lets this play out over the course of the next two years that he's contracted, the coach might look to go past him sooner rather than later, which you see in developing groups.

“He’s 30 years of age and looking to jump now for a new lease on life and to potentially prolong his career at a different club.

“Collingwood aren't on their own in their interest. You'd say they're definitely most likely, though.

“What Richmond would be willing to accept in a trade, if anything, is the unanswerable question at the moment.”

Bobby Hill

“We get a question on Bobby Hill every time we’re on.   “There's no interest in him yet. We're told he's training, he's staying fit.

“If there is to be interest from a club, it's going to come really late, I reckon, in the period.”

Flynn Riley

“He's a huge unit. If you had him lined up on the wall, you'd have no problem picking him. He's 210 centimetres, but he's a one-game ruckman.

“This is the curiosity of the trade period. He wanted a new contract to Carlton.

“The Blues wouldn't offer anything more than a two-year deal, which I thought was probably standard.

“He was pushing for more, and in the end, he's got more. He's told Collingwood and Carlton on Sunday that he wants a trade to the Pies.

“He's got a three-year deal on the table from Collingwood with a trigger, a very soft trigger, I'm told, for a 4th season.

“He's got tremendously good security there from Collingwood, for a guy who's played one game.

“As unrecognisable as he may be, he's going to be playing for Collingwood next year. You'd be almost certain of that.”

Jake Stringer

“There’s a conversation to be had around him.

“It’s a little bit like the conversation we just had earlier with Bobby Hill in the sense that it's, if it's going to come, it's going to come late.

“It would be very hard to get your head around him being lost to the game after a season in which he's had 100 shots at goal and kicked some big bags too.”

Jordon Butts and Zak Butters at the Dogs

“Jordon Butts did a medical yesterday at the Western Bulldogs.

“They had a big weekend, the Western Bulldogs, because they had Zak Butters meeting a lot of his prospective new teammates there.

“To skip a million steps, the deal (for Butters) happens. I don't think anyone's in any doubt that it happens. It just does.

“It's just a matter of what it looks like, what club is willing to give what, what club's willing to accept what, and what other clubs might get involved.”
