Greyhound racing: Thursday night Sandown best bets (29/10)
By Jason Adams
We’re treated to a great card of greyhound racing tonight at Sandown Park with the second series of the Sportsbet Melbourne Cup Preludes.
Greyhounds are aiming to win their Prelude and lock away a spot in heats of the Cup on Saturday November 21.
The standouts are limited but it presents as a night where if you can find value, you will be rewarded.
My best is an ex-Kiwi in Shows Promise (1) who’s in Race 7, Melbourne Cup Prelude 10. I was impressed by her win last week and despite this being an astronomical rise in class, box 1 counters that a fair bit. She used it last week and there’s no reason to think she can’t replicate the run. She’ll get room to move and could upstage some of these far bigger names.
In the following Prelude (Race 8) I think there’s value about Mi Amigo Diablo (7). His reputation has somewhat lost shine since his career began but we can’t forget what his ceiling is, it’s pretty high. He has Bold Thruster (6) inside of him who will charge to the rail and Kiwi Evoca (8) won’t give him any grief. He gets opportunity and at north of double figure odds worth a throw at the pegs.
Outside of those hot Preludes of the Cup, I look towards Race 3 and Mepunga Express (7). It’s a good field but it’s nothing he’s not used to. He can begin quickly and he enjoys being out wide so the draw is no major issue. In my eyes he’s a chance of leading for a long way, therefore represents value at a decent quote.
Earlier today, the line-ups for the 2026 Sportsbet Topgun and Sportsbet Topgun Stayers were revealed on this morning’s edition of Giddy-Up with Gareth Hall on SEN Track and Racing.com.
The selection panel met last weekend to settle on the finalists for the two invitational Group 1s, to be run at The Meadows on Saturday November 7. The night opens the Dream Chasers carnival, which will again be live on Racing.com.
