The Sydney filly Sheer Style ($1.85 favourite), who had shown promise with two good seconds in her two previous runs to date, proved too a bit nippy here and also coped well with the heavy conditions. She began quickly and went straight to the lead. She was travelling well in front but hung out on straightening and briefly looked in danger when challenged at the 200m pole but she dug deep and came away to win quite well by a length at the post. The Mick Price-trained colt Geromayo raced in third place on the rails, gained an inside run on turning for home and challenged strongly at the 200m marker and then battled on to take a sound second, beaten one length. Debut runner I Am The General raced outside the leader to the home turn. He put in a good run half-way down the straight and kept fighting on for third, beaten just under two lengths. *ANZ
