The Darren Weir-trained three-year-old Trust In A Gust ($2.05 favourite) ran out an easy winner. He was third early and soon went to the lead. He then ran along, setting a solid pace in the heavy conditions. He established a clear lead from the 800m and had his opposition struggling as he rounded the home turn, going on to win impressively by almost three lengths. Churchill Dancer was third early, went to second nearing the 600m and he continued to chase the winner from that point for a sound second, beaten two and three quarter lengths. Gambaccini was a distant fifth and under pressure from the 800m mark, was a distant fourth coming to the turn and battled on quite well in the straight for third, beaten just under six lengths. *ANZ
