The Sofitel (LR)
Bon Aurum was not hurried away from his 11 barrier and settled back of midfield and remained there half way around the Flemington bend. The pace being easy, rider Craig Williams sent Bon Aurum forward, three wide, to be handy approaching the last corner. Into the straight and Bon Aurum cannoned into Ulmann but lost little momentum and Williams got him going again to challenge the leaders, sharing the lead passing the 300m. Williams gave him another shake and they edged clear then drew away to win quite comfortably at the post. Ulmann sat handy yet three wide around the bend, was bumped by the winner at the 400m and then battled well the length of the straight to hold second. Hi World was third last and in traffic into the straight, took some time to balance then rattled home very late to nab third at the post.
