This G3 3yo over 2000m saw the two favourites quinella the race and they were stablemates as well namely The Chosen One and Spring Delight. The colt beat the filly by half a length and they were dominant over the rest with then a further two and a half lengths away to the third finisher. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were led (one-off the inside and half a length ahead), eighth (one-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), ninth (on the fence and three lengths from the leader), fourth (five-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), fifth (six-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), seventh (seven-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), led (on the fence and a length ahead), sixth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader) and led (one-off the inside and a length clear). The Chosen One had been luckless in his prior start the G1 NZ Derby and after racing midfield the outer then moved up wide before the home turn and straightened up fourth and unleashing with purpose. He was third at the 200m and 100m but still coming and led at the 25m to clock 2:03.53 and record his third win in nine starts and now has a G3 win to go with an earlier achieved Listed success. Spring Delight has blossomed of late winning her maiden easily four runs ago and then last start beating the older horses comfortably and now today got backed into favouritism. She led then took a sit second before moving up and taking the lead with 200m to go and only succumbed to her stablemate the final stages. Blue On Black ran a career best race when leading up and just held onto third at the line considering this was his first try at 2000m and he rose 600m on his last outing. Langkawi raced fifth or sixth the outer then moved up third wide at the 600m before being fourth at the 200m but kept fighting on well. Decadence was a real eyecatcher late from well back on settling and the filly hit the line hard like she has a decent race in her this season. Lord Arthur was not too bad after settling well back the inner and coming through closer in and he is a stablemate of the first two home. Mighty Connor was not too bad from tenth on settling while Nordic got back then was very deep across the top but never chucked in the towel thereafter and he is also a stablemate of the first two home. Don't Know Jack fought on fairly from the midfield for eighth beaten just under six lengths but then there was a gap to the rest that were over ten lengths from the winner at the line. Deels Done is the forgivable one as a falling runner did not held his cause just inside the final 200m. The filly that fell Taming The Shrew sadly fractured a right fore metacarpal and had to be euthanased. This is usually a good future source of winners as the late season developers get a chance to shine but just how strong this field was is still up for assessment so has a pending tag on it. The winner will back up in the G1 ATC Derby (2400m) at Randwick this Saturday and looks a different colt if he can settle in the running. Spring Delight is in a purple patch of form and Blue on Black showed he can run middle distance. Decadence could not be missed the way she found the line and it was hard to not to make a note of Lord Arthur and Nordic, stablemates of the first two home.
