The G2 mile for 3yo fillies had plenty of drama and was run at searching clip and also saw the favourite after settling down last, clip a heel ahead fall turning for home. The winner Capella came with some crunching strides down the outer after settling down fourth last. Despite trying to throw it away by veering out at the 100m she was too strong at the post to clock 1:33.42 with over a length to spare. It was her third win in five starts and first blacktype win with surely more to come. Rudd Not Too has come back well this season and after two wins in a row tried hard in this for the hattrick. Valley Girl was a super third after being back sixth the outer then striding up ominously to challenge wide out at the 400m. She fought well considering she arrived too soon to lodge a bid and with a better timed detonation looks in for a good season. Coldplay ran on late but after being hampered early and getting back well back she was always facing a big assignment. Preetha Varma was okay for one of such little raceday experience. Strada Cavallo ran on too late after getting too far back in the running. Alamer set up the crazy speed and was gone once headed at the 200m plus was found to be mildly lame after the race. Ruby Armani bled and is automatically banned for three months. Sofia Rose after an awkward start settled in the rear duo and was last across the top to the home turn then clipped a heel of a runner ahead at the 400m and fell. In such a strongly run race much more was found out about several of these fillies than a dawdle and sprint home could ever show. Capella is untapped and the ability to relax then let rip with a sustained surge will take her to greater heights properly placed this season. Ruud Not Too, the stablemate of the falling favourite Sofia Rosa, was very close to starting the public elect on the tote and tried hard. Valley Girl has upside galore once her detonation is timed better. Coldplay is still on target for an Oaks campaign and left-handed does seem more tractable but she seems versatile enough to cope clockwise until then if that is the path her yard takes to Trentham. Preetha Varma has some scope so more racing and gained ringcraft can only help the filly this season. Strada Cavallo is likely next to race left-handed and possibly over 2000m, which she appeared to be looking for the way she ran on late today. A good future source race as it invariably is due to the position in the season it is held and being over a mile it weeds out any sprinters and highlights the middle distance and Oaks players.
