It was a tight finish for this Listed sprint over 1200m and the outcome was eventually decided in the stewards room. Onlyarose led and kicked gamely to win by a head but veered out the closing stages and hampered the runner up Red Striker enough for the Judicial Control Authority (JCA) to change the placings. It was not a clear cut decision at all as the rider of Red Striker never stopped riding or hitting her mount at any stage so it came down to the narrow margin on the line. She had settled back then came through closer in at the 400m before angling off at the 300m and poking between runners to fourth at the 200m then reaching second at the 100m. Red Striker was promoted to first in the 1:09.18 run race to record her fourth win in fourteen outings and the Listed success goes with a G3 second in her resume so far. The 4yo is very consistent having been top three in twelve of her starts and finishing fifth the other two times. Onlyarose was brave as she did all the speed work up front and with a smidgen more margin of victory almost certainly would have held the race. Irish Moon was a close up third and fought well after sitting second the outer throughout. Miss Foxwood ran on okay after lacking complete clear air the run home for large portions of it while Smashing battled away okay after sitting fourth the outer. Fascination Street was a tad disappointing after the run she got and may need a rain-affected track to let go properly. Stunning Princess ran on late after being the deepest turning in so will have gained a lot at her first clockwise outing. The rest were not beaten too far with five and a half lengths covering first to last but a couple of the runners are in foal so are nearing the end of their racing careers. Caellum can be forgiven as he was incredibly wide throughout and working overtime in the midfield then had the audacity to go up deeper turning for home before the topweight of 60kg took a toll too. Whether this will have any bearing come the G1 sprints is doubtful as now with the Railway here and the Telegraph at Trentham held at set weights and penalties it helps the proven quality and older sprinters more.
