This G3 1200m over 1200m saw the natural leader Ferrando kick on too well for his rivals to win by half a length in 1:10.14. It was the slowest 1200m of three held on the day and Ferrando was winning his fourth race from six starts with all of them coming from in front or outside the leader. The colt has a Listed fourth and a flop on a bog at WFA versus the older horses in his other two outings, so today was a first ever blacktype win or place. Royal Fashion the filly was a huge second after knuckling at the start and being well back and wide but she really unleashed hard the final 200m. Kingsman was a commendable third after being last away but crucially recovered the inside early and got through to trail the winner across the top. Spindle was a super fourth from stone cold last and coming down the outer and she was beaten less than a length. O’Rachel tried to match motors with the eventual winner and came off second best to finish fifth but fought well and was a length and three-quarters behind at the line. Honey Rider sat wide seventh or eighth with cover and fought on well to be beaten two lengths but is better left-handed at this stage. Elusive Empire, Chicane and Glass Slipper all were not disgraced and could be backed to win next time out in a more suitable field. Glass Slipper got badly held up inside the final 200m when having something to offer so her effort is a total forgive and they will be coming, jumping or climbing out of trees to back her next time for sure. Lady Hass was poor and It’s Time For Magic ran off badly near the home turn. Ferrando looks an out and out sprinter with more in store in New Zealand this season but they may have Australian ambitions with this colt and think Sydney lesser support card events and then aim up afterwards knowing Queensland is the right level to target. Royal Fashion has it all ahead and is a filly with upside galore while Kingsman will be winning soon and Spindle is ditto. This field had some legitimate depth as many can be followed out of it to win at least once more this season.
