This G1 over 2000m at WFA for all comers saw the uber-consistent True Enough win in a tight finish that saw the first six home covered by just over a length and a half. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were fifth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), second (two-off the inside and half a length from the leader), fourth (four-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), led (one-off the inside and a length clear), eighth (on the fence and six lengths from the leader), sixth (three-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), ninth (four-off the inside and eight lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and half a length from the leader) and third (four-off the inside and half a length from the leader). True Enough had a soft trail the inner and then got worked off and strode up to lead at the 250m then held them all out by a neck in 2:01.24 so the race was run at a decent clip overall. The 6yo was winning his ninth race in twenty starts and after today had two more runs for a runner up each time at G1. He has been top three in his last fourteen starts in a row so is consistency personified. The Australian bred mare Fiscal Fantasy came from midfield the inner in the running and drove through closest in to almost prevail. Beauden ran home strongly from well back for a good third while Mongolian Marshall was a game fourth after being wide and working for the first half of the race to get up handy the outer. Pinmedown ran an eyecatching fifth after settling down last while Vernanme came from back on the inner and fought on well to the line. The seventh finisher was in a gap beaten over four lengths and the last finisher was beaten almost seventeen lengths. There have been two G1 winners since out of the race in Tiptronic (seventh finisher today) and The Mitigator (last finisher today). A lot of this field are handicappers rather than WFA types but it was still a decent strength G1 event overall for New Zealand racing but the bunched finish of the first six home is an asterisk of form strength wariness.
