This G2 3yo fillies only 1600m event saw Jennifer Eccles incredibly winning her first race after a succession of Blacktype placings and she would go from strength to strength after this. She had at her prior outing run a super close up second in the G1 1000 Guineas (1600m) and the filly is yet to run a poor race lifetime. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were fifth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), second (two-off the inside and half a length from the leader), fourth (four-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), led (one-off the inside and a length clear), eighth (on the fence and six lengths from the leader), sixth (three-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), ninth (four-off the inside and eight lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and half a length from the leader) and third (four-off the inside and half a length from the leader). Jennifer Eccles started odds on and sat sixth the outer poised then surged up the run home and got the lead 50m out scoring by a length in 1:35.28. Today she was winning her first race in seven starts and obviously gaining her first Blacktype win, so has a G2 success at this juncture to go with a G1 second, and a G3 and Listed third. She would after today have four more runs for a G3 third then three wins in a row with two coming at G2 and one at G1, the latter when capturing the NZ Oaks. Two Illicit boomed home for second after settling down eighth and she was also a very much in form filly prior. After today she would race three more times for two G2 wins (including one over Travelling Light) and a G1 second in the NZ Derby (2400m) as an even money favourite against the boys too. Showoroses led up and dictated proceedings and ran a good G2 third having prior finished second at G3. Manchu was an honest fourth while Coco Baci ran a decent race as did Kaipaki Road. Showbeel had a nightmare wide run so her eighth was a very much unheraded brave effort and after today she would win at G3 over a mile and the second and third finishers would be Loire and Jennifer Eccles, the first two home in the G1 1000 Guineas in November. Showbeel at her next two starts after today would finish second and third at G2 behind Jennifer Eccles each time. This was a strong race and would turn out a rich source of winners for this season remaining but also will stand up very well next season.
