This G3 Open Handicap over 2400m saw a clear cut win to Platinum Invador and there was almost staggeringly forty lengths between first and last at the line. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were third (four-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), fifth (four-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), third (eight-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), led (six-off the inside and a length clear), second (three-off the inside and a neck from the leader), fifth (four-off the inside and six lengths from the leader), fourth (six-off the inside and a length from the leader), third (six-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), second (three-off the inside and a neck from the leader) and seventh (eight-off the inside and three lengths from the leader). Platinum Invador had been in form prior to today with placings but had not won a race for almost a year until his dominant victory in this. After settling back as usual he was second last until sweeping up sixth across the top and maintained the long run to be third turning for home and lead at the 200m. He bolted in by almost three lengths in 2:27.69 and was winning his fourth race from seventeen starts and today was his first Blacktype win. Platinum Invador in three more starts after today would place twice (second at G2 over 2400m beaten a nose) and (third at G1 over 3200m beaten a length). He was tried in Australia twice as a 3yo in the Autumn but failed badly beaten by big margins. Savy Yong Blonk, a 4yo mare that carried 55.5kg like Platinum Invador a 4yo male), ran a good second after settling down last with her conqueror just one spot ahead. She came with a good finish after weaving through and was still fifth at the 200m but the winner had long gone well clear by the time she reached second at the 100m. The Good Fight ran a solid third after sitting midfield the inside while Concert Hall, which ran favourite, was wide then led early before settling handy the outer and had every chance thereafter finishing fourth. The gaps started to open up after that with Pinmedown fifth beaten six and a half lengths but she was an eyecatcher and luckless. The rest were a tad weak or found the good track too firm or the overall time too testing or a combination of all three. Half the field was out of form or had not shown much for quite a while and some had not won for an eternity. Platinum Invador was panels superior but Savy Yong Blonk and The Good fight both have the stamina and are Cups strength in New Zealand too.
