This G3 Open 1200m went to Its Destiny Child narrowly in what turned out to be a tight finish with less than a length covering the first four and there was in fact fewer than a length and three quarters covering the first seven home. The winners today at Ellerslie and where they turned for home in race order were fourth (five-off the inside and a length from the leader), sixth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), fifth (three-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and a length from the leader), seventh (three-off the inside and three lengths from the leader) and sixth (eight-off the inside and three lengths from the leader). Its Destinys Child raced fifth the outer and surged up on the home turn and got up in a tight finish in 1:09.68 to record his seventh win from just seventeen starts. The 6yo mare would race once more that season and run second at G3 beaten a head by Spring Heat, which had run a bold third in the G1 Telegraph Handicap prior. Her season consisted of five outings for three wins (one at G3 today and one at Listed level earlier), a close second and a fair ninth in the G1 Railway Handicap. Molto Veloce fought well for second after leading early then taking a sit second and taking the front with 200m to go, The then 4yo mare would finish last in the G3 event that the winner ran a close second in after this event. Third home was another mare in Short Fuse that came with a solid finish from last on settling and still being their turning for home. She would at run an eyecatching fifth at G3 in the same race that the winner of this, Its Destinys Child would run a close second in. Fourth home beaten less than a length was Mr Universe after racing sixth the outer and looming up at the 150m. Fifth home was a luckless Pretty To Sea that had raced well prior with an eyecatching fifth in the G1 Railway Handicap and before that a win at Listed level over the since dominant at G1 twice Advantage. She was stiff at her only other start following this when third at G3 in the race that the winner of this Its Destinys Child finished runner up. Santa Caterina was a fair sixth beaten just over a length and she would race once more this season when third in a Listed event at Trentham. Vigor Winner was beaten less than a length and three quarters and was far from disgraced. The other two in the race dropped out and were beaten over three lengths. This proved to be a handy result for several after this.
