This Listed event for 3yo gallopers specific to Karaka Sales saw the million dollar event go to a dominant favourite in Probabeel that went around at $1.60. The winners today at Ellerslie and where they turned for home in race order were fourth (five-off the inside and a length from the leader), sixth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), fifth (three-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and a length from the leader), seventh (three-off the inside and three lengths from the leader) and sixth (eight-off the inside and three lengths from the leader). Probabeel was ridden cold from her middle gate and she pounced out deep on her opposition to lead at the 250m and powered away to score by a length and a half. She clocked an impressive 1:33.49 for the mile as the leaders went too hard to ever be even near them at the finish. It was her fifth win in eleven starts and her second Listed win in New Zealand that went with her victory in the million dollar 2yo version a year ago. She would win at G1 in Australia after this to prove her worth off shore. Second home was the Australian bred and visitor Conqueror that ran home attractively from well back on settling and reached second at the 200m. Hasstobegood ran a solid third beaten four lengths after racing three back the inner and then getting off the inside near the home turn and being second at the 250m. Harlech ran home hard for fourth after settling well back albeit beaten seven lengths. He has had a good season finishing first or second in all his start until a luckless fourth today. Tibetan the maiden ran a decent fifth albeit beaten over seven lengths. Pimlico led up and ran too fast in front puncturing to finish sixth beaten over eleven lengths and in one New Zealand start afterwards ran third at G2 but was beaten thirteen and a half lengths. The rest got beaten well over eleven lengths and up to almost twenty-one and a half lengths. The winner was dominant and the second finisher a tad unlucky. The third finisher ran above his rating and his $35 price proved as such while and the fourth finisher started a clear third favorite ran home okay as did the fifth finisher, a maiden still at the time of this race and paying $56 a win.
