This G3 Open Handicap over 1400m saw a fresh up True Enough score after getting a dream trail behind the leaders on settling. Once again an absurd manmade on pace and inside lanes bias ruled the whole G1 day and while this was not quite as bad as the bias of the century track on Day Two at Hastings it was still an unfair shocker. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were fourth (four-off the inside and a length from the leader), led (on the rail and a length ahead), co-leader (two-off the inside), fourth (five-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), led (on the rail and length and a half ahead), fifth (five-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), second (one-off the inside and a neck from the leader), second (four-off the inside and a length from the leader), fourth (on the rail and two lengths from the leader) and the deadheaters in the last event were fifth (five-off the inside and two lengths from the leader) and co-leader (four-off the inside). Ten races (eleven winners with the deadheat in the last race) and no winner came from worse than fifth and further out than five-off the inside and no more than two lengths from the leader all day with four leaders winning, two came from second, three from fourth and two from fifth. Fast times or crawls and sprint homes made no difference as the track was blatantly manmade biased and this was worryingly with the rail out 3m, when it was true on Day Two, the most manmade biased track ever seen on a G1 day at the Bay. How this keeps happening on G1 days defies belief, as tracks fair to all or at least almost all are needed and wanted for credibility and confidence. True Enough was not cleanly away but kicked up the inner early and ended up with a trail on a day the track raced blatantly manmade biased towards on pacers and the inside lanes. Once through to second the inner at the 200m the 6yo gelding was angled off at the 150m and coming with purpose at the 100m. He took the lead inside the final 50m and scored by half a length in 1:23.17 to win his seventh race from sixteen starts, a good conversion rate. True Enough has only finished outside the first four just twice and both of them resulted in tenths and his G3 win today goes with a G2 third over a mile he achieved in March earlier this year. The Mitigator disputed the pace on the inner then led and kicked away at the 300m only to be collared with just 40m to go. Hanger settled down sixth on his own and unleashed well to get third with 50m to go and he was beaten half a length and a long head in total. Magnum ran a game fourth from eighth on settling and he too was beaten less than a length all up. Heni ran on strongly last from well back the inner while Watch This Space found the line solidly too from ninth or tenth on settling. Dawn Patrol was a tad disappointing in finishing seventh after racing second the outer and though he was beaten less than three lengths it seemed he did over-race a bit much once getting there. Hunta Pence battled on late from the rear on settling while Stradivarius had no finish from fourth or fifth the outer. Morse Code never ran on from seventh the inner and Deerfield stopped after being caught wide third and feeling the strain turning for home. This was not a very strong G3 overall as so many out of form runners and a lot of non-regular winners or shy saluters contested the race.
