This Listed 2yo over 1200m saw the colt Sai Fah revel in the testing wet ground and win comfortably after sitting handy wide in the running. He had won his prior start on heavy footing by a big margin so copping the deep stuff was never an issue. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were fourth (four-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), seventh (five-off the inside and four lengths form the leader), led (three-off the inside and a neck ahead), led (eight-off the inside and half a length ahead), second (seven-off the inside and half a length form the leader), fifth (eight-off the inside and a length from the leader) and third (ten-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader). Sai Fah was third wide then fifth wide before coming up fourth turning for home then let rip and led at the 350m and went on to score by a length and a quarter in 1:20.12. It was his third win from eight starts and all his successes so far have come on slow or heavy ground. Flaunting ran home stoutly from the rear duo to get second and she has been one or two in all her starts bar one, the Listed Karaka Million won by the likely 1000 Guineas winner next season in Probabeel. Jager Bombed set the pace and kept them mean and keen before being run down with 350m to go. Blue Rata Elgius was not too bad after racing third between the leaders but did have every chance. Ruby Negroni the outsider at $40 ran a sound fifth while Lord Bouzeron ran on okay from eighth or ninth and wide. Bubble Gum was an honest seventh but the very short priced London Bound disappointed with an eighth beaten over eight lengths after racing fifth the inside. The rest stopped badly and got beaten out of sight from over twenty-one lengths to almost twenty-five lengths. Sai Fah left nothing with any excuses whatsoever as he sat deep but it did not matter as he accelerated in the footing while others found the task too energy sapping. This was a purely a wet track result so will have no bearing on better footing races this Spring.
