This G2 1400m at WFA for fillies and mares only drew a decent field depth-wise and a second up 6yo mare Yearn sat fifth wide working all the way but still kept coming to score a gutsy win. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were led (two-off the inside and half a length in front), fifth (four-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), second (two-off the inside and a neck from the leader), third (two-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), fifth (six-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), third (three-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), led (on the fence and a neck in front), third (four-off the inside and a length from the leader) and tenth (five-off the inside and four lengths from the leader). The track presented was greatly biased towards on pacers as just one runner all day came from off the pace and that was in the last race as the winner came from tenth turning for home and four lengths from the leader. The other eight races saw six of them come from first, second or third turning for home and two came from fifth but no worse than two and a half lengths from the leader. The times all day were okay but nothing exceptional on a supposed Good3, which just adds to the bane of betting that is manmade track bias. Yearn had no right to win this but her fight and refuse to lose attitude won the Blacktype bout and was her seventh win in thirty-three starts. It was the first Blacktype win for the late maturer too and the 1:22.54 was only the second best time of the day from three events held at the seven furlongs. The clear favourite Media Sensation set the pace and kicked away at the 400m looking sure to score but she had one threat the final 200m that would not go away and it passed her with 25m to go. To say Media Sensation had every possible chance is an understatement. Princess Kereru surged home stoutly from well back to reach third at the 200m and she kept coming too. Le Castille improved from back and wide early to end up third the outer then between runners with the eventual winner on her outer. She turned for home fourth and was fifth at the 100m but fought on and regained fourth by a short head on the line. Queen Of Diamonds raced sixth the inner and came though to be fourth at the 100m but lost that spot on the line in a race she had every chance throughout. Savette ran on solidly in an eyecatching manner from ninth the outer. Pierina is a total forgive as she settled back the inner then worked off and had plenty to offer but got hopelessly held up the final 200m. Supreme Heights was an okay eighth but the rest got beaten over seven lengths and up to a dozen lengths. Ample form comes out of these fillies and mares races that have decent depth and it applies at all levels and both at WFA versus allcomers or under Handicap conditions. The winner and third finisher today both would be G1 placed two months later.
