This G2 Open Handicap mile saw a tight finish for the top two with True Enough beating a game Vigor Winner by half a neck. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were twelfth (six-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), fifth (eight-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), twelfth (ten-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), led (six-off the inside and a neck in front), seventh (six-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), led (on the fence and a head in front), second (four-off the inside a head from the leader), led (one-off the inside and a length in front), sixth (four-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), fifth (four-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader) and ninth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader). True Enough raced fifth the inner not far away then worked off across the top then drove through the run home to reach third at the 300m and second at the 150m. The 6yo gelding set out after what looked the victor in Vigor Winner and caught him with 15m to go but still had to fully fight to the line to make sure of the win. True Enough was today recording his eighth win from eighteen starts and of those career runs he has missed the top three just three times for a fourth and strangely tenth and last twice. He likes good to dead ground and is too consistent to ever ignore in whatever grade he contests in New Zealand plus has tactical speed as well to add to an imposing armoury. Vigor Winner, an Australian bred, at just his tenth start almost won this G2 mile and even more staggering he had in three previous mile attempts failed each time. The 4yo was third last away then got sent up fourth wide for most of the first half of the race then raced third wide across the top before taking the lead with 300m to go. He was uber-brave in defeat and only got 2kg from the winner, an older much more experienced galloper. Sacred Day ran on well from back and wide for third in game fashion while He Kin Fly at $44 ran fourth beaten just over a length after settling down worse than midfield. Shadows Cast under topweight of 59kg sat outside the leader and tried hard when fifth beaten just over two lengths. He won this race when deadheating for first back in 2017. Jessiegee was seen running on from well back and Secret Allure got back then came through closer in and battled on okay. Watch This Space raced wide throughout midfield then up closer across the top so did well not to drop right out. Lincoln Raider was noticed running on from last turning for home and his stablemate Sir Nate battled on. Gallant Boy battled away too then Son Of Maher was forgivable as he got checked at the 250m and he deadheated for first in this race back in 2017. Camino Rocoso was the leader and stopped once headed turning for home. This looks a reasonable strength G2 overall and it should provide its fair share of winners to come in Open Grade or at Blacktype level. The winner True Enough looked pitch forked into this at 54kg being a G3 winner the prior month and having placed before that at G2 with 55kg.
