This G3 Open Handicap over 1200m saw the same quinella result as the first day here at Riccarton at Listed level but the order was reversed with Sheezallmine beating Sensei. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were twelfth (six-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), fifth (eight-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), twelfth (ten-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), led (six-off the inside and a neck in front), seventh (six-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), led (on the fence and a head in front), second (four-off the inside a head from the leader), led (one-off the inside and a length in front), sixth (four-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), fifth (four-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader) and ninth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader). Sheezallmine showed her customary leader speed and kicked clear at the 300m and never looked like being caught with the 4yo mare winning by over a length and a quarter in 1:08.11, which is a rather tepid time down the bionic chute and dogleg at Riccarton. It was her fifth win from nine starts and her first Blacktype win. Sensei was 3kg better situated today from four days prior here after beating Sheezallmine so looked a weight moral and started at just over even money. The moral of the story is there are no morals in horse racing and he flew home from too far back on settling and only finding clear air at the 300m. He came home hard but the bird had already flown. Princess Amelie at $22 raced fifth then third wide to the home turn and looked to be a wilting fifth at the 200m but she dug deep and regained a distant third on the post. Killarney at $33 came with a big finish for fourth after settling down well back and wide and the former North Islander should more than pay his keep now trained in the South Island. He ran a good fourth at Listed level here four days ago too so is finding the lesser depth a welcome luxury. Prince Oz won this last year and today came with a big run from well back and actually briefly reached third at the 50m before finishing fifth and just two noses from third at the line. The Precious One whacked away the inner for sixth but had every chance while Morweka sat second the outer then went off stride at the 150m before weakening. The rest got beaten almost six and a half lengths and up to more than thirteen lengths with the majority of them disappointing. The top two were superior again by a decent margin.
