This Listed 2yo over 1000m saw the gelding La Romanee produce a remarkable surge after being slow out and last away then getting angled widest runner turning for home. He unleashed powerfully and led at the 150m going onto to score by almost a length in 56.63. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were seventh (two-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), third (on the fence and one and a half lengths from the leader), led (one-off the inside and a length in front), seventh (four-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), ninth (eight-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), fourth (seven-off the inside and one and a half lengths from the leader), eighth (seven-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), co-leader (three-off the inside), co-leader (three-off the inside), tenth, (three-off the inside and three lengths from the leader) and sixth (one-off the inside and three lengths from the leader). La Romanee was winning his second raced in three outings and his first at Blacktype level plus it seems his preference and likely need is for rain-affected footing. Showmehowitisdone, a maiden filly, ran home stoutly from sixth or seventh on settling for second and gained her first Blacktype placing. Ohio Showgirl raced third or fourth then seemed to be one-batting when sixth at the 200m only to get her second wind and come along the inside for third the closing stages. Queen Of The Prom raced on the pace and fought well for fourth after leading turning for home while Laced With Gold the favourite from seventh and wide on settling strode up deeper and led at the 200m before wilting. Chokito wilted too after racing fourth wide and moving up second turning for home. Watchmaker ran on very well from last across the junction and he looks a name to set your pre-post punting clock by as a three-year-old. The rest came home in a gap beaten over eight lengths to over twenty-four lengths. The winner looks to have upside on wet footing while Watchmaker is the other takeaway from the race that was a reasonable juvenile field and useful enough to see scope eventuate.
