The winner of this G2 for fillies and mares only over a mile was a $23 all the way winner in Showoroses, a 4yo mare that last won a race, a lowly Benchmark 65 after leading, in November of 2019. She led today the whole way and was never pressured being clear in front and had two lengths on the field still the final 100m. The winners and where they came from on the home turn were second (three-off the inside and a neck from the leader), led (one-off the inside and led by two lengths), third (five-off the inside and four and a half lengths from the leader), second (three-off the fence and a neck from the leader), eighth (six-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), fifth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), led (one-off the inside and a half a length in front), led (two-off the inside and a length in front) and second (three-off the inside and a neck from the leader). Showoroses was winning just her third race today from a dozen starts and her first at G2 obviously but she had form coming into this having run a close second prior also at G2. The 4yo mare had three Blacktype outings last season for two placings (at G2 and G3) so her ability has never been in question. Today she won by two and a quarter lengths in 1:35.40 and that time was slower than the opening event, a Benchmark 74, so she got away it in front and kicked clear the run home. Second home and running on well too late was the clear favourite Supera that got back ninth surrounded and ran home hard from seventh and wider turning for home. She raced into second at the 25m but the winner was well clear and her good finish was all in vain. Third home was Supreme Heights that trailed third the inner and was fourth across the top to the turn before she came through to second at the 250m and boxed on okay. Fourth home and really finding the line was Sinarahma, which started a distant second favourite and came from back and wide turning in. The 6yo mare hit the line hard to be beaten three and a half lengths and she should been in the top three all things being fair. Crafty Jess hit the line okay for fifth after racing midfield the inner and being held up the first half of the run home. Fiscal Fantasy, an Australian bred, was sixth home from seventh or eighth the inner and she ran on in tight quarters the run home to be beaten four and a half lengths. Next home was Mohaka that raced fourth or fifth the outer and she was a lip ahead of Le Castille that sat second the outer and wilted the run home. Aalaalune was running on from second last the home turn then a gap came back to the rest that started with a poor Katie Perrie beaten eight lengths. The last mare home was beaten almost forty lengths was Pinmedown that was eased out of the race after suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. The winner of this Showoroses was slightly misleading as she got away with an uncontested lead the whole trip and had a picnic out in front. You would think rival riders would know how dangerous this 4yo mare is when left alone in front by now. Supera has one more run left before her broodmare career starts so that elusive G1 is coming down to the wire it now seems. Sinarahma ran home hard from well back for fourth and she should have paid a dividend. Crafty Jess was sound the closing stages and Fiscal Fantasy was running on late too. The other run of note was Aalaalune that was last most of the race and turning for home second last but got home okay albeit distantly. This was a track bias and tempo assisted winner but she won too easily did Showoroses for it to be a total fluke. It was a decent field of fillies and mares and befitting a G2 rating bar the track bias that can be absolutely rife here at Te Rapa. The track bias today, which is as brutal at Te Rapa or in fact more than anywhere else in New Zealand, saw seven of the nine winners race in or near the lead and turn for home first, second or third.
