Chad Townsend has slammed fans who made abusive comments towards the club following the announcement of the side for their Good Friday match.

On Tuesday, the club published a post on Instagram containing the team list for their clash against the Rabbitohs.

However, this post was inundated with disgusting comments about the squad It was also alleged that it contained death threats.

The comments were so bad that the club decided to turn off comments on the post in order to protect its players from abusive comments.

That would be a sentiment shared by club officials, with GM of Football Phil Gould saying the people leaving those comments were not fans, with coach Cameron Ciraldo agreeing with Gould’s sentiment.

Townsend would also agree with the call made by the club.

“Absolutely love this,” Townsend told SEN’s Kick Off.

“Social media is a massive part of, I guess, society in 2026.

“But there are so many people on social media who do the right thing, and there's a minority who do the wrong thing.

“And I agree (with) Gus. These guys are not fans.

“If you go on social media and you write badly or you send death threats to people, like, you must not be happy in your own life to be writing things about another person or a player or whatever on social media.

“It really does tick me off, and I absolutely applaud the Bulldogs, whoever's made this decision to stop these vile comments, because they're just disgusting.”

The 2016 Premiership player then doubled down on his view of the situation.

“You can have an opinion,” he added.

“Having an opinion is what social media is for, connecting with friends, posting photos and pictures and talking about your sports team.

“But as soon as you get involved in vile, disgusting death threats, you're an absolute disgrace.

“You're not a fan, and if you're someone who pays membership and you write that stuff on social media, if I'm with that club, we'll give your money back.

“We don't want people like you supporting our club."
