Manly or PNG? Where should Watson land?
By SEN
With Connor Watson being moved on by the Sydney Roosters, Matty Johns has named the club where he would ‘an ideal signing’.
The utility was granted the ability to speak to rivals during the week by the Roosters, which would allow him to leave before his contract runs out in 2027.
Two favourites have emerged for his signature in the Sea Eagles and the PNG Chiefs.
Out of those options, Manly is currently the reported favourite as they look to get an experienced player at the hooker role.
But for Johns, he believes the NSW representative is a better fit at PNG, considering his likeable personality will go a long way, given all the players will be living in a compound together.

“He would be an ideal signing for PNG,” Johns said on SEN’s Morning Glory with Matty Johns.
“He’d be great for Manly, no doubt, but he would be the ideal player for PNG.
“We’ve said before with PNG, you don’t just want good players. You’re going to need really good people.
“When you’re living in a compound and in each other’s pockets, one arsehole can ruin everything.”
During his two stints at the Roosters, the 29-year-old played 105 games, where he scored 20 tries.
He also featured off the bench in five matches for the Blues in State of Origin across the last two years.
The Chiefs will enter the NRL as the competition’s 19th side when they begin in 2028.
