Former Essendon and St Kilda player Jake Carlisle has departed his role with the Moama footy club after vision of him striking a teammate in the head was leaked to social media.
The vision of the 34-year-old, who was brought in as a player-coach, was filmed on Good Friday during Moama's first round clash against Echuca in the Murray Football League.
It quickly went viral.
“Official line is that he has moved back to Melbourne hence why he has been cleared. Nothing more to add sorry,” Moama president Scott Slater told News Corp.
Carlisle played 151 AFL games in his career which ended in 2021. He was one of the 34 players banned in 2016 for their involvement in the Essendon drugs saga.
Freelance reporter Matt Jackson shared the video called the incident "disgusting behaviour".
“That’s Jake Carlisle...and this was their first game with him being a co-coach, and he’s decided to smack his own teammate in the face. What’s he doing? This is a disgrace,” Jackson said.
Even the other teammates, they’re like, ‘What are you doing, mate?’ Echuca United players, they’re in disbelief.
“He only signed on to coach in October last year, and I believe that this wasn’t the first indiscretion that he had in that four months as well.
“Cannot be smacking your teammate in the face particularly when you’re the coach.”
