Victorian apprentice Bree Temple is the latest in what is becoming a long list of interstate jockeys making a name for themselves by riding in Tasmania regularly.

Senior rider Anthony Darmanin has been coming here so long that he is almost eligible to vote in state elections, but the move has proved a real winner. Darmanin has won two premierships and had a great association with champion Tasmanian filly Mystic Journey, riding her to Group 1 success in the Australian Guineas.

Temple began making fly-in trips to Tasmanian meetings just a few months ago, and with her valuable 3kg claim, is picking up some plum rides.

Last Sunday, she scored her best win to date when she led all the way on Buzzoffski in the $45,000 Alexandra Plate.

Trainer Leanne Gaffney took advantage of the apprentice allowance in that race, and Temple took Buzzoffski straight to the front and gave nothing else a chance.

“She jumped well; I got her into a nice rhythm throughout, got her breathing right, and she really kicked with the light weight.

“I’m so grateful for everyone who has given me an opportunity so far, and hopefully it will keep going,” Temple said.

So far, Temple has ridden seven winners from just 32 rides in Tasmania. Following her success last Sunday, she returned to Victoria and rode a winner at Pakenham on Monday for the powerful Peter Moody/Katherine Coleman stable.

Temple will be back this Sunday for the meeting in Devonport, where she has seven rides on the eight-race program.

And while Buzzoffski has stamped herself as one of the state’s best 2yos, the unbeaten Aristopolos has been pleasing trainer John Blacker. The youngster has been back in work for about seven weeks but will be tipped out for a short break and come back in early next month.

“He could run in a fortnight’s time if we wanted to, but our plan wasn’t to, so we will stick to our plan, and he will come back good as gold; we will give him a couple of trials and maybe an exhibition gallop,” Blacker said.

Aristopolos is likely to have his first-up run in the 3yo cup in November.

Blacker, the state's leading trainer, has entered a team of 14 for Sunday's meeting at Devonport and believes Stollaway Ned in race three is one of his best winning chances.

Matt Reid will be trackside for Tasracing Live. The action kicks off at 11:05.
