Tasracing's Sunday best bets at Devonport (12/07)
By Matt Reid
Sunday thoroughbred racing is in Devonport with good numbers across the eight-race program.
There are 95 acceptors across the day, with the first race scheduled for 11:05.
Best Bet
Race 1 – 5. Subarashii Express
Perhaps some low-hanging fruit to start the day, but I was with Subarashii Express last time when he just missed behind Colonel Bogey after doing far more work in the run than the winner. He strikes a pretty thin maiden where the lightly raced or debutant brigade hasn’t shown an enormous amount at the trials.
Next best
Race 5 – 1. Garcon D’espoir
Garcon D’espoir went into most Tassie Black Books after his first-up run, where he lost by a hair to the flying Blameitontheboogie. That saw him sent around $1.55 next start, where he was wide without cover for the trip and again lost by the barest of margins. Needless to say, the horse is absolutely flying, and he should be opening his account for the campaign here with any luck in running.
Best value
Race 4 – 1. French Soul
I thought French Soul trialled well before his first-up run, and I don’t think he was suited by the fast pace over 1150m, which took away his turn of foot late. He’ll strip much fitter for that, and he gets out to a trip which saw him win his maiden second-up last campaign. He’s a horse I have some time for, and I think he can figure here with a good ride from Lauryn Bingley.
