Ozzie Kheir has revealed the stable will keep all options open with star sprinter Jimmysstar, with Saturday’s Memsie Stakes set to play a major role in determining whether an Everest campaign comes into consideration.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s racing on SEN Track & RSN’s Giddy Up with Gareth Hall Kheir outlined that the team was keen to see how Jimmysstar performs first up before committing to a spring path.

“We’re keeping all options open, we really want to see how he goes on Saturday,” he said.

“If he comes back like he did in the autumn we won’t be worrying about going toward an Everest but if he returns like the Jimmy we all know then that’s a different discussion.”

Kheir weighed in on his two leading spring hopes, Birdman and Buckaroo, when asked which he believed was the better chance of winning the Cox Plate.

"I would say Birdman,” he claimed.

“We’ll try and split both of them up if possible but it does depend on how they perform in races like the Underwood and the Makybe Diva because that will determine whether we go to the Cox Plate or Caulfield Cup.”

Meanwhile, Soulcombe is set to make his long-awaited return in the Heatherlie Stakes, nearly three years after his last appearance.

Kheir said simply getting the talented stayer back to the races represents a major achievement.

“Just getting him back to the races is a big achievement,” Kheir said.

“We’re not expecting a great deal from him over this trip first up and obviously having three years off but the positive would be that James McDonald is riding him.”

Another horse attracting plenty of attention is Mr Miller, who Kheir believes could be a major player in the Epsom Handicap if he manages to secure a start.

“I think if he gets in he will start top five in an Epsom but I don’t want to get carried away,” Kheir explained.

“There’s been a lot of hype around him and he’s running on Saturday, I think he should just win and will need to to get his rating up.

“We’re rushing to try and get him there, at the moment I reckon he’s a 50/50 chance to get to the race.”

With several of his leading horses facing crucial spring tests over the coming weeks, Kheir looks set for a major campaign across both the sprinting and staying features.
