Another blockbuster matchup is coming this Saturday in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes over a mile at Flemington.

Sheza Alibi stripping fitter will face off with Sir Delius who is first up.

There are questions marks over Sir Delius’ ability to match Peter Moody’s star filly who already has a run under her belt, but Gai Waterhouse made it clear that the horse is ready to fire.

Gareth Hall, John O’Neill and Wayne Hawkes on SEN Track’s Giddy Up Monday Means Test discussed the upcoming Group 1.

“Should Sir Delius be $4 versus Sheza Alibi $1.50?” questioned O’Neill.

Wayne Hawkes pointed out that people are forgetting the class of Sir Delius.

“Remember this time last year Sir Delius was arguably one of the greatest horses in the country.”

Additionally, O’Neill queried the distances and which of the two horses was better suited to the mile.

“Maybe at 2000m (Sir Delius wins), and maybe she (Sheza Alibi) beats him at a mile,” he said.

Mr. Brightside has taken out the last three editions of this race and enters this year’s edition once again after a good showing first up in the Memsie Stakes.

“The interesting part of this race is Mr. Brightside at $9; he won this race (last year) and could get a soft lead out front.” Hall mentioned.

Worth noting long time jockey Craig Williams has jumped off the champion, solidifying his ride on Sir Delius this spring.

Blake Shinn steps up to take the right on the back-back-back winner of the Makybe Diva Stakes.

The crew also discussed Birdman, Buckaroo and Light Infantry Man and whether they should head to this weekend’s Group 1 or wait one more week for the Group 1 Underwood Stakes.

Owner John O’Neill preferred the Underwood direction for Birdman and Buckaroo, and a Makybe Diva Stakes for Light Infantry Man.

“I would love them both to go there (The Underwood Stakes) it gives ourselves a great chance because you are not going to beat Sheza Alibi.”

“If she doesn’t beat you Sir Delius will.” Added Wayne Hawkes.

“I would like Light Infantry Man to go to the Makybe Diva.” O’Neill said.

The Makybe Diva Stakes is shaping up to be another fantastic display of Group 1 racing as it returns to Flemington for the first time in the 2026-27 season.
