Matt Reid’s Friday best bets at Launceston (16/10)
By Matt Reid
Launceston Night Racing ramps up on Friday with a quality eight-race card.
The rail moves out to +6m from +3m last week, and I’d expect a good surface with fine weather forecast.

Best bet
Race 7 – 6. Glory Mission
Glory Mission couldn’t have been more impressive in two wins to open the campaign, the latest against key rivals he meets again on Friday. The rise to 1200m looks ideal third-up, and he drops to the minimum of 54kg with an ideal barrier (3) for in-form jockey, Chloe Wells. It’s hard to see him not in the finish with even luck.
Next best
Race 4 – 11. Copper Reign
Copper Reign gets her chance to improve on Friday night with the benefit of the inside draw. Her first-up run as a 3yo was forgivable as she went back from a wide draw in a race that was dominated on speed. I’m expecting a different level of intent from a horse who carries a bit of a spruik as a $60,000 purchase. It’s time for her to show what she’s about with the feature 3yo races arriving next month.
Best roughie
Race 8 – 10. Halen
I’m expecting sharp improvement from Halen, who was a better run than it reads last Friday night over an unsuitable 1100m. His last 200m of that race was the second fastest for the night, and he gets to a 1400m distance where he’s been in the quinella at two of three in Launceston. Agadoo is a deserved favourite, but it’s an open race once you look past her.
