Saints to make Stringer a four-club player
By Sam Edmund
Jake Stringer is set to join St Kilda in another big off-season move from the Saints.
Stringer’s move to Moorabbin could be announced on Monday in what will be the fourth club of his 15-year career.
The enigmatic forward departed GWS after a productive - yet controversial - season in Sydney. Stringer booted 48 goals, but tested the patience of teammates and coaches with a failed business venture that for a time had him owing money.
St Kilda head of football Lenny Hayes said only three days ago that Stringer “hasn’t really been discussed”, but things appeared to have moved quickly.
In a statement released on Monday, Hayes believes Stringer will provide them with more flexibility.
“Jake has a proven ability to hit the scoreboard, and we believe he can add another dimension to our forward line,” it said.
“Jake's experience and goal kicking ability will complement the talent we already have while giving us greater flexibility and depth in attack.”
The Saints have been crying out for firepower in the ongoing absence of Max King and Stringer kicked bags of seven (Fremantle), six (Adelaide) and five (Hawthorn and Brisbane) in 2026.
Stringer’s 250-game, 440-goal career started at the Western Bulldogs, continued at Essendon and then went to GWS.
He kicked 160 goals in 89 games for the Dogs (where he won the 2016 premiership), booted 207 majors in 123 outings for the Dons, before 78 goals in 38 games for the Giants across two seasons.
