Optus Apollo Stakes (G2)
Contributer scored a most impressive first up victory here coming from ninth position one off the fence, before taking the home turn wide out. He picked up really well in the straight taking the lead at the 100m before being eased late in what was a most impressive performance. Ninth Legion put in a big effort being forced to work hard from his wide barrier (14) and only crossing to the fence at the 700m. He kicked strongly again at the top of the straight and was only collared at the 100m. He fought on gamely for a very good second considering the work he did in the run. Weary was also forced to work hard from his wide barrier (13) to race in third position. He turned for home three wide and battled on gamely for third without really looking a winning chance. A sound effort. Lucia Valentina settled down a long way off the pace in second last position. She was still a long way back on turning for home, switching back towards the inside looking for runs and she finished on really well in what was inferior ground to finish (2 lengths) fourth. A good effort first up. Silent Achiever came from fourth last and wide to finish on really well on the outside for (2.7 lengths) fifth. Also a good first up effort.
