The winner of this G3 event was Miss Aotearoa and she did it the hard way back and wide but she travelled up a treat across the top. She was ridden back seventh and wide and was sixth wide (with cover) across the top before being let loose to go up fourth and four-wide near the home turn. After reaching third at the 250m she then sustained her run to lead at the 40m and ended up winning by a neck in 1:11.21. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were led (three-off the inside and a length clear), fourth (four-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), led (six lengths clear centre track), third (trailed inner and length and a half from the leader), fifth (five wide and three and a half lengths from the leader), sixth (on the inside and four lengths from the leader), third (three-off the inside and half a length from the leader), fourth (four-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), third (one-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), fourth (on the inside and two lengths from the leader) and led (three lengths ahead the fence). Miss Aotearoa has never been beaten in four trials and now is two-for-two this season as her lone defeat came on debut when fifth to the since undefeated (three for three) and Australian bred Need I Say More. It was obviously her first Blacktype win and she looks a filly with the ingredients all breeders hope for and that is the will to win. Sweet Anna ran a gutsy second after sitting outside the leader to the home turn and then having a real fight with it before gaining the upper hand only in the last 5m. Babylon Berlin, an Australian bred, had won her maiden in a canter after leading up and took the front today early but always had Sweet Anna for close company. She was kicking too well it seemed for Sweet Anna from the 300m and to the 100m and then once headed by the eventual winner Miss Aotearoa the final 40m only yielded second the last 5m. Fourth home and beaten just over half a length was the fresh up filly Tokorangi that raced back and was in fact last the inside across the top. She turned for home second last and reached sixth the inside at the 200m before being fourth at the 150m then she dove between runners at the 100m. Her potential is there for all to see and after a very quiet trial as she ran a blinder at G3 and was stiff to miss getting any Blacktype herself. Taroni ran on well for fifth after settling back eighth surrounded across the top and she has gone two good races so far so will be at her peak next time out. De La Terre ran a brave sixth after racing third and wide the whole way and still being fourth at the 250m to the 100m. Wicket Maiden was an okay seventh after racing fourth or fifth the inner. The rest got beaten almost five lengths and up to over eleven lengths. This looks a decent race for future reference because so many of these fillies ran up to their ability and some even went beyond their potential.
