This Listed 1200m Open Handicap saw the field decimated by scratchings due to the Ellerslie track being presented as a holding Heavy10 and the clear topweight in the race Indecision would lead and win easily. The dreadful holding Heavy10 footing presented at Ellerslie played havoc all day with results and margins of defeat and this was no exception. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were fifth (four-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), third (three-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), seventh (nine-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), eighth (three-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), fifth (three-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), tenth (five-off the inside and five lengths from the leader), fourth (six-off the inside and a length from the leader), led (four-off the inside and two lengths clear), second (ten-off the inside and one length from the leader) and led (eight-off the inside and neck in front). Indecision carried 60kg and for a 5yo mare that is an impost on such treacherous footing but she was left with only six other rivals. She was second last away but sped around and got the front easily and then ran two lengths clear across the top to the home and was steered deliberately well away from the inside. The mare carried 4kg more than the next highest weighted rival and 7kg more than the rest of the field. Indecision won by two and a half lengths in 1:13.50 to record her sixth win in twenty-two starts and three of them have come at Listed level. The mass of scratchings meant three natural leaders came out of the event from the eight withdrawn hence Indecision getting a cheap lead and being able to carry the big weight no worries. Santa Monica ran another honest placing and was second chasing the winner in vain throughout. Rocanto fresh up led out then settled down fourth and moved into third turning for home, with the gelding keeping coming and almost got second money. Belle Gioia ran on from sixth the inner on settling while Short Fuse raced fifth and battled away for that position but was almost five lengths from the winner. Power Dream raced third then weakened he run home and the favourite She's A Thief was another on the day to finish dead last, so two of the Stakes races today the public elect never beat a runner home. The filly missed away slightly and for a natural on pacer never got near the lead and was never ever travelling in the tricky footing. The time of Indecision was 1:13.50 was good in comparison as a few races earlier a Benchmark72 winning mare that scored almost as easily ran 1:15.96 or fifteen lengths inferior. This race turned into a suspect farce after all the scratchings and the fact a fresh up 3yo filly this season facing the older horses for the first time ever ran favourite in a Listed event plus the winner, a mare, carried 60kg and won easily. All races today are tainted by the awful footing presented and bias it created as a Heavy10 track is rare in Summer and to be a holding gluepot just made things even worse.
