"It's time": Why Foran should be Manly's next coach

Becoming the interim coach of the Manly Sea Eagles after just three games as an assistant coach, Kieran Foran was thrown into the coaching deep end.

Yet, the Kiwi is not only surviving but thriving in the role.

And now, David Riccio believes the former Sea Eagle has what it takes to be the club's full-time coach.

With four wins in his first four games, Foran has become the first interim coach to achieve the feat in the NRL era.

As a result, the Sea Eagles have risen from 14th on the ladder to 6th, with Foran’s case to be promoted into the full-time role only growing.

And with their change in fortunes, Riccio thinks Foran has proven himself worthy.

“Absolutely, it is,” Riccio told SEN’s The Front Office with Vossy.

“I think it's almost game time. What's left to prove?

“Maybe it's a case of we're seeing how they go against top-tier opposition this weekend against the Panthers, and maybe that's all that is required to see how that performance goes.

“But what are we waiting for?

“I say that because I'm absolutely definitive that the Manly Sea Eagles aren't scouring the market for another coach.

“There's been no movement outside of wanting Kieran Foran to succeed at Manly, and he's doing that.

“So, I think it's time. I think he's done everything possible (to be appointed).”

While Riccio believes that Foran has done enough to earn the contract, Andrew Voss thinks that the club should wait for another fortnight before making a decision.

“If I'm Manly, I am waiting for the next two weeks,” Voss explained.

“Not to see if they win, I want to see the performance.

“Because the next two weeks is Penrith, followed by Brisbane, then into the Tigers at Magic Round.

“But the next two in particular, Penrith, followed by Brisbane, are the next two opponents.

“As I say, (he) doesn't have to win both games. But if (he has a) good performance in both, let's revisit this conversation. Let's get the pen and the contract written for Kieran.”

The Sea Eagles will face the Penrith Panthers at CommBank Stadium on Sunday night from 6:05pm AEST.

SEN League will have live coverage of the match across SEN’s radio network and on the SEN app following the conclusion of the Knights v Rabbitohs match.
